Agri-Processing Product and Marketing Program FAQs

Agri-Processing Product and Marketing Program FAQs

These programs help Alberta processing companies, agricultural producers and producer groups develop new and innovative ways to get Alberta-made products into the hands of domestic and international customers.

There are two parallel programs; one delivered by Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development (ARD) focused on the crops sector the other delivered by Alberta Livestock and Meat Agency Ltd. (ALMA) focused on Alberta meat industry development.

The Growing Forward 2 (GF2) Agri-Processing Product and Market Development Programs address three key industry objectives.

  • Market knowledge and opportunities: The program helps businesses anticipate and capitalize on market trends, consumer demands and strategies that can positively impact their business.
  • Industry expansion and diversification: The program helps businesses, producers and value chains identify new markets (domestic and international), products and opportunities to grow and diversify their business.
  • Industry renewal: The program helps new entrants into agri-processing develop new Alberta-made products, cultivate new markets for Alberta goods and increase investment in Alberta value-added companies.

How are costs shared?

Established or new processing companies, agriculture value-added producers and producer groups, and value chains may be reimbursed for 50% of costs related to product development, market development (domestic and international), labeling, market research, business and marketing plans, and consulting or coaching fees for these activities.

Maximum payments: Individuals, businesses and groups can apply for multiple projects to a maximum of $100,000 per fiscal year for ARD funding, and a maximum of $500,000 per fiscal year for ALMA funding. A number of exclusions apply; contact us for more information.

  • Established or new agri-processing companies that have a manufacturing or processing presence in Alberta.
