What is Growing Forward-2 (GF-2)?

A National program designed to develop the agricultural sector in Canada to make it competitive and profitable.

What is the GF-2 Biosecurity Delivery Agent Program?

A government granting program that provides funds for Delivery Agents to create awareness, educate, and train individuals, determine risk and implement mitigations on on-farm biosecurity and animal disease risk management in Alberta.

What is on-farm biosecurity?

A set of good management practices implemented at the farm level to prevent the introduction and spread of animal diseases.

Is biosecurity important?

Yes. Animal diseases are costly for producers; biosecurity is an important tool to stop diseases from entering and spreading within and between farms. Biosecurity is not expensive, diseases and pests are.

Who is eligible for funding under the Biosecurity Delivery Agent program?

· Industry organizations providing programs and services that benefit primary agriculture producers in Alberta.

· Farm service providers providing farm level services to primary agriculture producers in Alberta.

· Rural municipalities in Alberta

· Alberta Metis Settlements

· Alberta First Nations

What activities are eligible for funding?

· Developing and delivering training programs and materials that increase biosecurity awareness and help with the implementation of on-farm biosecurity practices, disease risk management procedures and emergency preparedness.

· Promoting biosecurity at producer meetings and trade shows.

· Monitoring commodity-specific diseases.

· Adaptation and development of national biosecurity standards.

· Consultation with producers, assisting producers with on-farm biosecurity risk assessments and GF2 Biosecurity Producer Program applications.

· Computer equipment or software that supports the implementation of on-farm biosecurity.

· Other activities as defined in the GF-2 Biosecurity Delivery Agent Program’s Terms and Conditions.

What happens after I submit my application and documents?

A committee will review your application. If an application is approved for $50,000 grant dollars or less by the Minister, the applicant will be sent an Approval Letter. The Approval Letter will specify the amount of the grant and list the Eligible Activities and Eligible Expenses. If an application is approved for more than $50,000 grant dollars by the Minister, the Applicant must enter into a grant agreement with the Minister to be eligible to receive funding under the Program. This grant agreement will contain the terms and conditions governing the grant under the Program.
