Traceability Technology Adoption Program FAQs

Traceability Technology Adoption Program FAQs

What is it?

The Traceability Technology Adoption Programs are designed to encourage producers to implement traceability technologies in their livestock operations. The adoption of practical, cost-effective traceability technologies will assist producers with animal management, and will enhance the integrity of Alberta’s traceability system for animal health, public health and food safety purposes.

What is covered?

The Program currently has 3 sub-programs: sheep, calf/cow and feeder cattle. Each sub-program has its own unique ‘Terms and Conditions’, ‘Application Form’, and ‘Eligible RFID Software and RFID Readers’. All are available online. Sheep and cow/calf are ‘reimbursement programs’– there is no pre-approval process. Eligible applicants complete the purchase(s), and then submit an application form with a copy of the invoice(s) to the Program. Feeder cattle program has a pre-approval process. Eligible applicants submit an application with the proposed purchases and the estimated costs. If eligible, applicants will be sent an approval letter and a claim form to complete and submit with a copy of the invoice(s) for reimbursement.

How are applications processes?

There is limited funding for these programs. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and subject to Program funding constraints.

How are costs shared?

The Growing Forward 2 (GF2) Traceability Technology Adoption Programs will reimburse eligible producers for 70% of approved costs for equipment and software that capture animal data for animal management and traceability purposes. Maximum reimbursement is $3,500 for the Sheep and Cow/Calf Programs. Maximum reimbursement is $15,000 for the Feeder Cattle Program.

Who can participate?

Individuals, corporations, registered partnerships, Hutterite colonies, members of a First Nation, and Metis settlements that meet program requirements.
