Program purpose statement

The program targets agri-businesses and producers with innovative market driven opportunities to develop new products, access new markets or expand their business. This Program parallels the Alberta Livestock Meat Agency’s Agri-Processing Product and Market Development program.

Program description

Under the Growing Forward 2 Agri-Processing Product and Market Development Program, successful applicants are eligible for reimbursement of 50% of certain costs related to product and market development. Capital expenses are not eligible in this program. The eligible activities and expenses are detailed in the Program Terms and Conditions.

Eligible activities:

  • Product development costs
  • Market research and development (domestic and international)
  • Labeling and packaging development
  • Business planning and plan development

Am I eligible for this program?

The following groups are eligible to apply:

  • Agri-processing companies with a physical manufacturing or processing presence in Alberta.
  • Producers and groups of producers who are adding economic value to their products beyond the primary production of crops and livestock (i.e. after harvesting is completed).

How do I apply for this program?

  1. Determine whether you are eligible - Refer to the Agri-Processing Product and Market Development Programs Terms and Conditions.
  2. Ensure that the project activities and expenses are eligible - Eligible activities and expenses are listed in the program’s Terms and Conditions.
  3. Get in contact with your Development Officer or New Venture Specialist to begin working on your application. If you have not been connected with a Development Officer or a New Venture Specialist please contact Dana Gibson at (780) 980-4220 or and an introduction will be made.
  4. Complete the Application Form - Once completed, send your application and supporting documents to your Development Officer or New Venture Specialists. NOTE: Applications WILL NOT be accepted if they are submitted directly to the Program Manager:


Applications may be submitted via fax or email, but original documents must be received by your Development Officer or New Venture Specialist within 10 working days of submission.

Completed application forms must include the following:

  1. Signed Original Application Form
  2. Quotes for all project work requested. Note: If quotes are not possible, please provide the assumptions made to determine the value requested.
  3. Project Proposal
